Japanese Bespoke Shoemaker, TYE, has just created a new boot design in their latest bespoke conquest: Side Laced Boots. Now, before someone goes commenting on the obvious, no, this is not the first time this style has been created. Edward Green created something years ago, but EG never really moved forward with it. But TYE Shoemaker perfected it as they often do in the design arena. Their pattern maker is next-level good, and it shows in each pair they create.

These new side laced boots offer the look of a button boot, without the often finicky idea of fastening buttons on a shoe, which usually requires a hook for assistance. These are more straightforward. Lace up and go! And I can imagine that was precisely the client’s idea: The look of a button boot without the hassle of the buttons. And that is fair play!
It will be interesting to see if more of their clients commission these new side laced boots in various colorways. From what I see of their work, they rarely produce two-tone shoes/boots, but one can wish. I would be curious to see how someone would create a leather/suede version of these.

I always enjoy seeing what TYE Shoemaker comes up with. It is nice to see that their clients allow them to be creative in the design part of shoemaking, as that is really my favorite area of it. There is no shoe that you can find of theirs that looks like someone else’s. They are all truly uniqu,e and these side laced boots are no exception. They are unique as they come!
