At last, menswear seems to have reached the denouement of its big pants agenda. In recent seasons, what began as a gentle slouch has revved all the way up to what can only be described as huge-ass trousers. But the world of pants is bigger than the billowing silhouette that’s come to define this moment in menswear. There are sharp cargo pants, groovy flared jeans, and double-knee work pants. There are pants with funky patterns and those that skew beautifully minimalist. All of this is to say, if we’ve learned one thing with each passing season, it’s that there are a lot of pants out there.
As 2025, too, winds down, we’ve rounded up an unranked list of the 10 best pants trends of the year, as worn by some of the most compelling dressers around. If you’re hunting for inspiration heading into the new year, this is a fantastic place to start. Just remember one of menswear’s most enduring truths: The quest for the perfect pair of pants is forever.
Pants with flare
Kendrick Lamar in January. Pants by Celine.
Gregory Shamus/Getty Images
In January, Kendrick Lamar stepped onto the Super Bowl Halftime stage in the flared jeans seen ’round the world. It was the year’s first real viral fashion moment, sending instant sartorial shockwaves—bootcut, back now?—but Lamar, per usual, was ahead of the curve. If there was any question about whether the flared pant was merely a blip, Pharrell Williams came to back up Kendrick and fully stamped it into the contemporary menswear lexicon. From P’s denim at Paris Fashion Week to the flashy tailored look he wore to the Met Gala, the LV honcho made one thing clear: If he was leaving the house, a flare was coming with him.

Colossal trousers
Tracee Ellis Ross in August. Pants by Willy Chavarria.
PG/Bauer-Griffin
It’s no secret that men’s pants have ballooned over the past five years as the dominant silhouette became looser, slouchier, and proudly wide. This year, you could easily spot king-sized pants everywhere, from Justin Bieber’s plaid trousers for a low-key date night to Oscar Isaac’s ERL tuxedo pants on the red carpet. But it was the perpetually impeccable Tracee Ellis Ross who snatched the Big Pants crown. In August, the well-styled actress called on designer Willy Chavarria for an ensemble of a striped dress shirt and a wide tie tucked into a billowing pair of utterly massive trousers.

Forever-classic blue jeans
Oscar Isaac in August. Pants by Celine.
Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images
A great pair of blue jeans is the easiest foundation for putting together an outfit, but every so often, the unsung hero knocks it out of the park. That’s precisely what Oscar Isaac pulled off late this summer. The vintage wash jeans—another big moment for Celine denim—were a thing of beauty, but the real magic was how he wore them: plainly and coolly with a textured blazer, penny loafers, and a plain white tee. Proof that the humble blue jean, when handled correctly, can absolutely earn a red-carpet moment.

Luxe leather
Pedro Pascal in March. Pantaboots by Saint Laurent.
PG/Bauer-Griffin
Leather pants have long lived in the closets of menswear’s more adventurous dressers, but this year the buttery-soft staple graduated to full-blown headline status. Plenty of guys made the case, but none more memorably than Pedro Pascal, who paired black leather pants with a pair of leather wader boots and promptly ricocheted across the internet. The boots from Anthony Vacarello’s Saint Laurent proved contagious, too. Two months later, Alexander Skarsgård took them out for a spin himself—proof that in menswear, an attention-grabbing look travels fast, especially when it’s made of leather.

Unbeatable browns
Andrew DeYoung, Tim Robinson, and Paul Rudd in March.
SXSW Conference & Festivals/Getty Images
Pantone crowned a rich, coffee-chocolate brown as its Color of the Year for 2025, and the shade was all over menswear. Its high point came at the SXSW premiere of Friendship, where stylish brown pants achieved a rare trifecta. Co-stars Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd showed up alongside writer-director Andrew DeYoung, each offering a distinct take. Robinson went rust-hued and slouchy but restrained; Rudd opted for a cleaner, slightly low-rise cut in a smooth butterscotch hue; DeYoung took the roomiest route, wearing greige flat-front chinos with generous ease—three excellent pairs of pants, three different shades of brown. (A runner-up in Best Brown Pants must go to Colman Domingo at the Emmy’s, though.)

Turned-up denim
Devin Booker in April.
The Hapa Blonde
It felt only right that one of the NBA’s best-dressed stars would reveal the coolest way to wear jeans in 2025. Devin Booker took a handful of Prada-fied menswear staples—a work jacket, blue jeans, leather boots—and stretched the proportions while nailing all the details. The head-to-toe outfit landed hard, but the real flex was the denim: ultra-baggy jeans finished with a jumbo cuff, the kind of move that makes true denimheads nod in quiet, reverent approval.

Tyler, the Creator in December. Pants by Le Fleur.

Few guys handle vividly shaded tailoring with such effortless ease as Tyler, the Creator. From his Supreme suits to his onstage IGOR-era looks, he’s been working this territory for years. For the premiere of Marty Supreme this month, he showed up in a powder-blue suit anchored by a pair of immaculately tailored pants—a crisp reminder that a bit of color can steal the show.

High-style nylon
Jacob Elordi in April.
Backgrid
Leave it to reluctant trendsetter and certified Bottega Boy Jacob Elordi to turn a coffee run into a quiet masterclass in nylon pants. The trick? Doubling down on the wind-breaking material and cranking the roomy, swishy factor all the way to eleven. If you’re thinking of going full nylon in the new year, take a page from Elordi’s playbook and also accessorize accordingly—which is to say, a Bottega Veneta bag and sneakers certainly don’t hurt. (But if you somehow get your hands on a rare for-the-homies-only pgLang fitted, please get in touch.)

Chromed-out anything
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in June. Pants by Chrome Hearts.
A.J. Mast/Getty Images
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander owns a deep bench of great pants, but his devotion to Chrome Hearts is especially passionate. The Los Angeles label may be surging with rappers and a new generation of fashion obsessives, but SGA’s Chrome Hearts rotation runs especially deep. Case in point: Game 6 of the NBA Finals, when he hit the tunnel in a pair of double-knee pants absolutely drenched in the brand’s gothic crosses. An ungodly amount, really—even Timothée Chalamet’s Chrome pants don’t have that many.

Not-boring gray trousers
Colman Domingo in November. Pants by Lanvin.
Adela Loconte/Getty Images
Perhaps no man wore more great pants this year than Colman Domingo. Perfectly cuffed blue jeans? Check. Slim, pleated tuxedo trousers? Absolutely. Flared brown pants? See above! The list keeps going. But then came the knockout: his heavily textured look from Lanvin autumn 2025 under designer Peter Copping, which raised the bar entirely. Proof that gray pants, when worn right, are anything but boring.
